Historical context

Vineyard sites in Brodenbach were documented in the early 15th century as property of the Lordship of Ehrenberg. A lease agreement from the late 17th century recorded approximately 60,000 vines there. After severe frost damage in the mid-1950s, many vineyards in the side valleys were abandoned. Following the introduction of the designation rules in German wine law, Neuwingert remained, according to municipal representation, the only Brodenbach vineyard site that was mentioned on Brodenbach wine labels.
