Location
The vineyard Mönchberg is assigned to the Ortsteil Mönchstockheim of Sulzheim in the Steigerwald foreland, the so-called Gerolzhöfer Gäu, in Franconia. The vineyard site faces south. The surrounding landscape of Mönchstockheim is mostly flat to gently rolling.
Vines and wines
Vines are still cultivated in the municipal area, including on the Mönchberg. Documented wines from the site include Bacchus, Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc, Domina, Blauer Portugieser and Dornfelder.
Wine styles
The documented range includes dry, delicately off-dry, semi-sweet and sweet white wines as well as dry and delicately off-dry red wines and semi-dry rosé. Among the designations represented are Kabinett and Qualitätswein. A producer grows its Mönchberg wines using natural and sustainable methods.
Historical reference
The name Mönchberg is linked locally to the historical connection to the Cistercian monks of Ebrach. From 1283 until the secularisation of the monastery in 1803, Mönchstockheim belonged to the holdings of the Abbey of Ebrach.
