Location
The Michaelsberg vineyard is connected with the Michaelsberg near Untergrombach, a district of Bruchsal. The hill lies on the western edge of the Kraichgau and borders the Upper Rhine plain.
Landscape and Geology
The Michaelsberg reaches a height of about 268.8 metres above sea level. Vineyards, terraces, orchards with scattered fruit trees, forests and meadows can be found on and around the hill. The subsoil consists of Upper Muschelkalk; parts of the hill are covered by thin loess deposits.
Viticulture and History
Vineyards on and around the Michaelsberg are documented. Historically, wine-growing shaped the character of Untergrombach. The Michaelsberg is also the namesake site where the Neolithic Michelsberg culture was found; archaeological investigations began in the late 19th century.
