The little wall is a vineyard site in Geisenheim in the Rheingau. The classified vineyard area covers 31 hectares. The site, which is oriented south-southwest, has a slope of around ten percent and lies at an altitude of 110 to 120 metres.

Soils and Climate

The soil is described as calcareous loess or carbonate-containing sandy loam. Boundary walls protect the vines from cold winds and store heat. The name of the site refers to these walls.

Grape Variety and Wine Style

The classified grape variety stated is Riesling. Wines from the little wall are characterised as powerful, with fine-spiced fruit notes.

Experimental and Demonstration Vineyards

An experimental plot of the Geisenheim University was planted in 1991 with the Riesling clone 168-30 and converted to biodynamic cultivation in 2006. It has north-south rows, a six percent slope, a vertical canopy wall, and a two-metre row and 1.2-metre vine spacing; vine training is carried out with a fruiting cane and ten buds. Another museum and demonstration facility shows educational systems from historical times in 23 rows, as well as systems from other countries, and was created in the 1970s.
