Location and Size
The Luisengarten is a legally registered single vineyard site in the Ebernburg district of Bad Kreuznach in the winegrowing region Nahe. The official register of vineyard sites lists the site with an area of 14.8 hectares.
Topography and Soils
A south-facing section shows slopes of up to 10–20 per cent. Other plots are described as flat and oriented from south-west to south. Documented soils include gravel, loess marl and loess, as well as sandy loam and clay, partly over loess.
Grape Varieties
At the Luisengarten, among others Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Grauburgunder, Kerner, Morio-Muskat, Weißburgunder, Scheurebe and Dornfelder are grown. For one plot, planting with 35 per cent Müller-Thurgau, 25 per cent Riesling, 15 per cent Dornfelder, and 10 per cent each of Kerner and Portugieser, as well as 5 per cent Morio-Muskat is documented. In other plantings, Pinot varieties predominate; wines from Spätburgunder, Pinotin and Sauvignon Blanc are also produced from this.
Wines and the Origin of the Name
Dry, finely sweet, sweet and semi-sweet wines, as well as white wines, rosé, red wines and Secco are documented. The wines are marketed as Deutscher Qualitätswein and, in a list, as Nahegauer Landwein. A Weißburgunder from the Luisengarten ripened in a stainless-steel tank. The name was chosen during a land consolidation process for a larger vineyard site and refers to Luise Jung, the grandmother of the name-giver.
