Location and Topography
Letten is a named vineyard site in the municipality of Auggen in Baden. The vineyard site is described as steep and facing south.
Soils and Cultivation
The vineyards of Letten grow on heavy, fertile loam soils. They are located in a water protection area, which is why environmentally conscious cultivation is required. The winegrowers avoid insecticides and use the mating disruption method with pheromones as an alternative measure for pest control.
Grape Varieties and Wine Style
The Auggener Schäf winemaker’s cellar assigns Letten in particular to Spätburgunder and describes the wines produced from it as powerful. A historical account from 1966 also records Traminer, Ruländer, Pinot Blanc and in part Gutedel in the vineyard site.
History
Winegrowing in the Letten area in Auggen has been documented since 1341.
