Location and Classification
Leisböhl is a single vineyard site in the municipality of Haßloch in the wine-growing region of Pfalz. The vineyard lies on the north-western edge of the town south of the A 65 motorway, at the transition from the Haardt foothills to the Upper Rhine Plain.
Soils and Vineyard Area
The municipality of Haßloch describes Leisböhl as a site with a uniform soil structure. This was cited as the basis for the recognition of wines typical of the site. In the official vineyard directory for 2024, 22.8 hectares of planted vineyard area are listed.
Grape Varieties and Wine Styles
From Haßloch’s Leisböhl, among others, Portugieser, Dornfelder, Weißburgunder and Gänsfüßer are documented. The wines include white, red and rosé variants, as well as Blanc de Noir, Eiswein, Secco and other sparkling wine or perry-like wine products. The vineyard areas were in a municipal planning document mostly assigned to white wine cultivation, at around two thirds compared with one third for red wine.
History and Wine Law
Haßloch is already documented as a wine-growing municipality in the Weißenburg tax registers as of 31 December 773. In 1972, Leisböhl was partly recognised as suitable for winegrowing; in 2007, a proposal was made to designate the site as an independent single vineyard. The designation Leisböhl for the registered parcels was legally approved on 11 November 2008. Since the 2008 vintage, the designation of origin “Haßlocher Leisböhl” has therefore been possible. In the vineyard directory, the site is listed under number 820522 in the Großlage Hofstück, in the area Mittelhaardt/Deutsche Weinstraße.
