In the site, calcareous loam, loess or pararendzina, as well as marl and pelosol are found. The soils developed as a result of wind transport and soil erosion from the Kloppberg.

Within the classified area, Riesling and Spätburgunder are named as the most important grape varieties. The wines from this site show different styles as a result of the varying soils and include Rieslings as well as wines in the Pinot style.
Name and Legal Designation
The name was first documented in 1562 as „im Leckerberg“. One possible explanation points to earlier salt licks for wild animals, but this is regarded as a historical hypothesis. The Chamber of Agriculture of Rhineland-Palatinate lists Leckerberg as an approved single-vineyard designation for protected geographical indications. The vineyard site number is 730606; the designation Dittelsheimer Leckerberg is assigned to Dittelsheim-Heßloch, or to Dittelsheim.
