Relief, soils and cultivation
Laurentiusberg lies between the vineyards of Oberdollendorf on the west-facing slope of the Dollendorfer Hardt in the Siebengebirge. The group of vineyards has loam and loess soils over greywacke. The climate is described as a transition between the sub-oceanic influence of the North German lowlands and an influence that is more strongly continental in character. The vineyards of Oberdollendorf are currently cultivated by the Blöser family.
History and viticulture
Laurentiusberg is one of the oldest vineyards in the Siebengebirge and used to belong to the estate of Sülz, one of the important vineyards of the Heisterbach Abbey. The name Laurentiusberg was introduced in connection with land consolidation in 1978 and was previously not an old cadastral designation. As part of the reorganisation, wide, drivable paths were created for machine processing. Most of the vines were trained on trellises; in steep sections, single-post training was used. A drainage ditch and a retention basin regulate surface water and reduce erosion.
Grape varieties and wine
In the Oberdollendorf vineyard group, Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Kerner, Gewürztraminer, Scheurebe, Portugieser, Dornfelder, Rotling, Weißburgunder, Muscaris and Regent are or were grown. Optima and Dunkelfelder are no longer cultivated there. The Blöser winery produces a Riesling Oberdollendorfer Laurentiusberg Kabinett and describes its wines from these vineyards as fresh and acid-focused. The range includes quality grades from Qualitätswein to Beerenauslese.
