Langenberg

Location and classification

Langenberg is an officially listed single-vineyard site in the growing region Nahe, area Nahetal, Großlage Paradiesgarten. The site is located in the cadastral district Odernheim am Glan and in the cadastral area Odernheim. The official wine-growing site number is 511384.

Relief, aspect and soils

The Langenberg lies on the southern flanks of the 313-metre-high Hellen above Odernheim. This comparatively high, steep hillside faces south to south-west and borders to the east the Kapellenberg site. The aspect allows for long sunshine exposure; the site is described as early-ripening. The soils consist of slate weathering with partly volcanic subsoil, including deeply rooted Devonian phyllite-slate weathering material beneath.

Cultivation and wine

The current operator describes the Langenberg as a vineyard site with centuries of history. Today, it is fully owned by the Disibodenberg winery. Pinot noir is documented from the Langenberg, including plantings of Burgundy Pinot Noir vines. A documented Langenberg Pinot Noir is a dry red wine with red-berry fruit, moderate tannins, fresh acidity and an influence of wood; it is described as early-ripening and elegant.

Some plots of the site are said to be abandoned and overgrown.
