Location and Landscape
The Elector’s Vineyard is a designated vineyard site in Meißen in Saxony. It belongs to the steep-slope sites of the Saxon Elbe wine-growing landscape and is listed in the Saxon wine-growing overview as an individual vineyard site.
Soils and Area
For the site, a loamy clay with loess subsoil is documented. The Saxon vineyard area table for 2020 records 5.8 hectares for the Elector’s Vineyard Meißen. Goldriesling accounts for the largest area under cultivation.
Grapes and Wines
Early Burgundy (Frühburgunder) and Muscaris are documented from the Elector’s Vineyard. An Early Burgundy from the 2016 vintage was produced as a dry quality wine using the Blanc de Noir process. A Muscaris from the 2024 vintage was bottled as a sweet German quality wine.
Designation and Management
In 2015, the Saxon winegrowing association documented an application to register the name Elector’s Vineyard Meißen. The proposed area included parcels in the cadastral district Kloster Heilig Kreuz as well as parts of parcels in Obermeisa. The documented Early Burgundy parcel was white-pressed by the winery Tim Strasser at Rothes Gut Meißen and processed with particular care. A report from 2026 described the name as historically attested and reported on its use by Rothes Gut for some vineyard areas.
