Location and context
The Kreuzpfad is the Lindacher Kreuzpfad in Lindach, a district of Kolitzheim in the Franconian wine-growing region of Bavaria. The vineyard site belongs to the Volkacher Mainschleife wine-growing area and to the larger Kirchberg grand site.
Site
Lindach lies in the Main region climate zone, which is described as one of the warmer wine-growing regions in Germany. The Kreuzpfad faces south-south-west and has an average slope of about ten percent. The soils in the surrounding area consist of Keuper formations with a thin layer of loam.
Vineyard area and wines
The vine-growing area of the Lindacher Kreuzpfad is given by the regional tourism authority as 15 hectares; a vineyard site table for the year 1993 lists 12 hectares. The most important grape varieties documented are Müller-Thurgau and Bacchus. In addition, Silvaner, Kerner, Domina and Rotling are listed as wines from the Lindacher Kreuzpfad. The range includes white wines, and red wine from Domina and Rotling.
History and name
Wine-growing in Lindach has already been documented for the year 880; it later declined and was taken up again from 1981 on a limited scale. The name Kreuzpfad refers to a wayside cross from the 19th century that stood at a path near the vineyard site.
