Topography and site

The vineyard referred to as Zeller Königsweg lies south of the steeply rising road from Niefernheim to Zell. The Zellertal valley, which is open to the west and well ventilated, has a cool climate that supports a long ripening period for the grapes on the vine. The vineyard areas are characterised by limestone marl of varying composition.

Grape varieties and wines

Chardonnay is planted in the Zeller Königsweg. Alongside the existing vineyard, a new planting covering three hectares with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier was established for the future production of sparkling wine. The Königsweg is documented as a source for Chardonnay wines as well as for grapes that are processed into sparkling wine according to the traditional Champagne method.

Winemaking

A Chardonnay from the Königsweg was fermented spontaneously, partly aged in wood, and left for more than six months on the fine lees. During maturation, bâtonnage took place.
