Site and geology
The Klosterberg, documented as the Bruchsaler Klosterberg, is a small single-vineyard site in Bruchsal in the region Baden. The location is on a limestone massif, which is covered by a thin layer of loess and/or Keuper material.
Climate and Riesling
Early shading at the site extends the ripening period. For the Bruchsaler Klosterberg, Riesling is documented; the wines are described as having a cool, mineral character, fine fruit and refreshing acidity.
Historical references
Up to the late 13th century, the Herrenalb monastery had acquired an estate on the Klosterberg, which included a press and a vineyard. In 1880, a farming operation connected to the municipal poorhouse was responsible, among other things, for supplying the vineyard on the Klosterberg.
