Location and classification
The Klausenberg is an officially registered single vineyard (Einzellage) within the Großlage Spaargebirge, in the area of Meissen of the Saxon wine-growing region. The vineyard lies in the Meissen Spaargebirge near the viewpoint Juchhöh and the Karlshöhe.
Topography and soils
The steep slope, which faces south to south-west, has inclines of up to about 50 percent and covers around 3.5 hectares. The soils consist of loose, stony granite-weathering soils with a low proportion of fine earth and are also described as granite-syenite weathering terrain.
Development and grape varieties
From 1996 onwards, the Schuh winery leased the Klausenberg and replanted the site after it had fallen into disrepair during a phase of decline. As part of the development, the dry-stone walls were restored. For the site, Goldriesling, Traminer, Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder and Spätburgunder are documented; Regent has been grown there since 1995.
Historical names
In 1685, the vineyard was recorded under the historical names Bernsteinscher Berg and Bernsteinsche Presse.
