Location and topography
Kirchweinberg is a designated vineyard plot (Gewann) on the former vineyard slope south of Steinbach in the municipalities of Neckarzimmern and Haßmersheim. The area lies on a south-west-facing slope in the Neckar valley between Neckarzimmern-Steinbach and Haßmersheim.
Geological and climatic site
The slopes of the Neckar valley near Neckarzimmern rise from the main Muschelkalk. The former vineyard slope is documented as a dry site and provides conditions for species that thrive on light and warmth.
Historical use and current management
Kirchweinberg was previously planted with vines. After viticulture on the slope was largely abandoned, shrubs and trees spread. The documented current management is intended for the restoration of calcareous dry grassland and habitats shaped by dryness, not for active wine-growing.
