Location and name
Kirchberg is referred to by the municipality as Burgener Kirchberg. The wine-growing area belongs to the named locations around Burgen in the Mosel in Germany.
Site
Burgener Kirchberg is a sloping vineyard site with a soft slate soil. A belt of woodland protects it from westerly winds and helps to ensure that, during dry seasons, sufficient moisture is retained.
Cultivation and wines
The wine-growing site has been farmed for generations by local winegrowers. Riesling is documented in wines bearing the designation Burgener Kirchberg Riesling. The wines are described as fruity or juicy, with a pronounced acidity and a distinctive bouquet.
Single-vineyard register
In the official register of wine-growing sites in Rhineland-Palatinate for the 2024 harvest, Bischofstein is listed as the municipality’s single vineyard. Kirchberg is not listed there as a Burgener single vineyard.
