Kehrenberg

Location and Geology

The Kehrenberg is a registered vineyard site in Altenbamberg in the Nahe region of Germany. The site lies in the extension of the Treuenfels vineyard site. Its soil is described as rhyolite with a covering of sand-stone weathering and some slate content.

History

A court book from 1723 records a plot of vineyard in Altenbamberg with the designation “in den Kehren”. The Eilebacher slope belongs to the Kehrenberg; a substantial part of this area was planted with vines around 1821, after Christoph Schneider from Ebernburg acquired it.

Vines and Wines

For the plots used in the Kehrenberg, steep locations, old vines and reduced yields are given. For the site, Riesling is documented. The wines include a dry Riesling from old vines and a fruit-sweet Riesling Kabinett.

Riesling Kabinett

The Riesling Kabinett from the Kehrenberg has around 35 grams of residual sugar per litre and a lively acidity. It is produced only in selected years.
