Location and classification
Katzenhölle is a legally recorded single vineyard in the Nahe wine-growing region Nahe, in the Nahetal area and the Großlage Kronenberg. It lies in the cadastral district of Planig in the municipality of Bad Kreuznach and has the vineyard site number 510120.
Area and soils
For the 2024 harvest allocation, the vineyard directory states a planted vineyard area of 44.1 hectares. A description of grapes from the Kreuznacher Katzenhölle mentions comparatively heavy soils rich in clay and gravel.
Grape varieties and wine styles
From the site, Silvaner, Spätburgunder, Bacchus, Muskat Ottonel and Würzer are documented. The wines include Qualitätswein, Spätlese, Kabinett and Blanc de Noir, as well as dry, finely off-dry, semi-sweet and dessert-sweet versions. A Würzer Spätlese is listed as semi-sweet with 8.0% alcohol, 5.5 g/l acidity and 87.0 g/l residual sugar.
Maturation and cultivation
For a Silvaner from the Kreuznacher Katzenhölle, part of the harvest was matured in barrique. Weingut Emrich-Montigny reports for its cultivated sites on environmentally oriented viticulture with restrained use of spray and fertiliser products, and on maturation depending on the wine, in stainless steel or in traditional large wooden casks.
