Katzebuckel

Location and Topography

Katzebuckel is a single vineyard site in the cadastral district of Mörstadt within the Wonnegau area and, as part of the Großlage Burg Rodenstein, in Rheinhessen. The hilly rise used for viticulture lies at 119 to 157 metres above sea level and is oriented to the north.

Soils

Documented soil types are loess/pararendzina and sand/rigosol. The calcareous loess layer deposited during the Ice Ages is deep, fertile, water-retentive and well-rootable. The calcareous loess-sand mix of the sand/rigosol is likewise deep, fertile, well-aerated and well-rootable.

History and Viticulture

The name Katzebuckel is attested for the year 1268 in the form “zu kazzinboehle”. In the site, Black Riesling is grown. The official vineyard register for 2024 lists Katzebuckel under vineyard number 730208 with 55.2 hectares under vine.
