Location and Topography
The Kapellenberg lies to the north-east to east of Eibelstadt in the Main triangle, above the town, and runs along the Bohlleite. From the Eibelstadter Mönchsleite, the vineyard site is separated by the green strip Bachsgraben. It is oriented to the south-west, lies at an elevation of 180 to 220 metres, and has a slope inclination of 20 to 40 percent.
Soil and Vineyard Area
As geological substrate and soil, Middle Muschelkalk from the Triassic period is documented. The VDP profile shows a classified vineyard area of 51.00 hectares for the Eibelstädter Kapellenberg.
Grape Varieties and Wine Style
For the site, Frühburgunder, Spätburgunder, Grauburgunder and Weißburgunder are listed. Predominantly, white wines are produced; red wines are also grown. Prädikatsweine are made in the site.
Name and Classification
Wine growing in Eibelstadt has been documented since 1090. The current designation Kapellenberg was adopted following the land consolidation; older field names were, among others, Neuenberg, Neuebrücht, Lerchenberg, Marktfeld and Hainbüchlein. The name refers to the Wayside Chapel of the cross at the foot of the hill. The VDP lists the site as Eibelstädter Kapellenberg and classifies it as VDP.ERSTE LAGE®. It is also assigned to the Großlage Eibelstadter Teufelstor.
