Kapellenberg

Location and Topography

The Kapellenberg lies in the Durbach valley at the foot of the Black Forest in Durbach in Baden. The sheltered site is oriented towards the west to the south-west and has slope gradients of around 30 to 45 percent.

Soils and Farming

The vineyard area comprises around seven hectares and is located on weathered granite soils. The Durbacher Kapellenberg is entirely owned and farmed by the winery Josef Schwab.

Grape Varieties and Wine Style

For the site, Spätburgunder, Riesling and Müller-Thurgau have been documented. The grapes are associated with a varietal-typical, fruity character and with sparkling wines, which are produced using traditional cellar methods.

Name History

The designation Kapellenberg was assigned to the site during the land consolidation of 1973, which rises from the Bruder-Klaus Chapel on the Ezleskopf for the Schwab winery.
