Location and designation
The Kapellenberg is a designated single-vineyard site in the Markgräflerland area of the wine-growing region Baden. The official designation includes the former municipalities of Bamlach and Rheinweiler, which today belong to Bad Bellingen.
Grape varieties and wines
For the Bamlacher Kapellenberg, plantings of Weissburgunder, Grauburgunder, Müller-Thurgau and Spätburgunder are documented. The winery Marienheim produces wines from this site including Gutedel, Weissburgunder, Grauburgunder and Spätburgunder.
Name origin
The name Kapellenberg refers to the pilgrimage chapel Maria Hügel above Bamlach. After it was destroyed in 1945, it was rebuilt on the original foundations and consecrated in 1952.
