Location and classification
The chapel is a single-vineyard site in the municipality of Bodenheim. It belongs to the collective vineyard of Sankt Alban and to the sub-region of Nierstein in Rheinhessen.

The documented soil type of the chapel is loess over pararendzina. The registered vineyard area is 9.7 hectares.
History of the name
The site name refers to the pilgrimage chapel of Oberdorf, which has been documented since the 13th century. The Bodenheim field-name area “Kapelle” is also documented in records from 1401 and from the 15th century in connection with a chapel near Oberndorf.
