Site and soils
Kalbspflicht is a designated vineyard site in the area of Eltville am Rhein in the wine-growing region Rheingau. The site faces south-west. It has deep loamy soils with loess loam; in addition, heavy soils with a loess overlay and heterogeneous soil conditions within the site are described.

The name is associated with an earlier cattle pasture that was protected by a woven fence. This pasture is mentioned for the year 1458.
