Kaiserberg

Location and landscape

The Kaiserberg vineyard landscape stretches across Ettenheim, Ringsheim and Herbolzheim in the Badish Breisgau winegrowing region. It includes vineyard sites, terraces, hollow ways and panoramic paths around the viewing tower Heuberg.

Climate and soils

The slopes facing south-west are described as having a mild climate and plenty of sunshine. Characteristic are deep, loess and loess-clay soils.

Grape varieties and cultivation

In the Ringsheim area, around 100 hectares of vines are cultivated. Documented varieties include Spätburgunder, Grauburgunder, Weißburgunder, Müller-Thurgau, Gewürztraminer, Regent, Auxerrois and Cabernet varieties. A business with plots in Ringsheim, Ettenheim and Herbolzheim states that the grapes are hand-harvested.

Wines and wine site law

For wines bearing the designation Ringsheimer Kaiserberg, fine, full-bodied Weißburgunder, dry Chardonnay, Blanc de Noirs and Spätburgunder Rosé are documented. A public notice from 2023 assigned the Ettenheim parcel 11002 to the individual site Kaiserberg and the larger site Burg Lichteneck.
