Location and Topography
Kafels is a single vineyard in Norheim in the wine-growing region Nahe in Germany. The vineyard is located on a steep slope at the edge of Norheim between Norheim and Niederhausen.
Climate and Grape Variety
The vineyard sites of Norheim are characterised by a mild climate that is comparatively low in rainfall, influenced by the surrounding rocks and wooded hills. In Kafels, Riesling is grown.
Queen’s Vineyard and Wine Styles
In 2006, a Queen’s Vineyard was planted in Kafels. Former Nahe wine queens planted named Riesling vines there; the State Winery Bad Kreuznach took over their professional care. Documented wines from Norheimer Kafels include Riesling Spätlese, Auslese and Eiswein, as well as earlier entries for Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese.
Cultivation
The State Winery Bad Kreuznach states that it has focused on organic cultivation since 2012 and, among other things, farms vineyards in Norheimer Kafels.
