Location and classification
The Jupiterberg is documented as the Hausener Jupiterberg in Hausen an der Zaber, a district of Brackenheim in Württemberg. The vineyard name is already recorded in the cadastral mapping of 1832 for the areas of Hausen an der Zaber and Dürrenzimmern. Legally for wine purposes, the Hausener Jupiterberg is regarded as a single site (Einzellage) within the Großlage Heuchelberg.
Altitude and soils
The vineyards are located at an altitude of around 200 to 280 metres above sea level. Depending on the plot, Gipskeuper, loess, loess loam, marl stone, claystone and Muschelkalk are named as the soil materials.
Grape varieties and wines
The Hausener Jupiterberg has been documented with Samtrot, Lemberger and Grauburgunder. A Samtrot from the 2020 vintage was matured as a semi-dry Spätlese with 12.5 per cent alcohol. A dry Lemberger from the 2023 vintage is described as a complex and powerful red wine with a character shaped by the barrique.
Cultivation and ageing
The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand by at least one producer. The documented Lemberger from the 2023 vintage macerated for 16 days and then matured for 20 months in barrique.
