Johannisberg in Zotzenheim
Johannisberg is a single-vineyard site in the district of Zotzenheim in Rheinhessen. It belongs to the Bingen area and to the Grosslage St. Rochuskapelle. Both the wine-growing community and the cadastral district are Zotzenheim.
Location and soils
The site faces south-west. Documented are marl-pararendzina soils from calcareous loams and sands, which are linked to deposits from the Tertiary sea. A local description also mentions sandy loam and clay.
Area and wine style
The officially recorded vineyard area is 31.6 hectares. The soils are said to produce dense, full-bodied and expressive wines with balanced acidity. Described white-wine profiles include aromas of ripe tropical fruit, honeydew melon and apricot.
Name and classification
