Location and extent
Johannisberg is the official name of a single vineyard within the Großlage Lößnitz. The vineyard site belongs to the municipality Radebeul in Saxony and extends from Johannisberg at Kottenleite to Talkenberg at the former boundary with Coswig. For the year 2008, around 40 hectares were given.
Relief and soils
Johannisberg is documented as a steep slope. The soils, which warm up easily, lie on steep hillsides. They consist predominantly of weathering products of granitic and syenitic rocks; at the foot of the slope, sand predominates. A soil profile shows a norm-rigosol with gravel-bearing sand over mixed scree sand from gneiss and meltwater deposits.
Grape varieties and cultivation
In 2021, Schloss Wackerbarth planted 6,500 Gamay vines on 1.3 hectares at Johannisberg. In the Zechstein sub-area, a new planting of Spätburgunder by the winery Karl Friedrich Aust is also documented.
Wine style
A Rosé brut sparkling wine was produced from Spätburgunder grapes from the Radebeul Johannisberg. This matured for more than three years in the producer’s cellars.
