Location and classification
The Jesuit vineyard is an officially registered single vineyard site in Trier-Olewig, a district of Trier. The site belongs to the wine-growing region Mosel, to the area of Bernkastel and to the Großlage Trierer Römerlay. In the official wine-growing sites directory it is listed under code 411230; the cadastral area is Olewig. The Jesuit vineyard is also recorded on a historical Mosel wine-growing map of the Trier administrative district from 1906.
Topography and cultivation
The official wine-growing sites register shows a planted vineyard area of 10.8 hectares. A documented sub-area lies at about 209 to 266 metres above sea level and shows slope gradients of 1 to 28 per cent. The exposure is south-southeast. For this exposure, a slightly later ripening of the grapes than in sites immediately oriented to the south is stated. The soils of a documented managed area are described as sandy.
Grape varieties and wines
On a documented area of 3.5 hectares, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc are grown. Under the designation Trier Jesuit vineyard, Rieslings of the categories Spätlese, Auslese, Eiswein and semi-dry Hochgewächs are recorded. In addition, a Trier Jesuit vineyard Auxerrois Spätlese is documented.
