Location and Classification

In the rocks, there is an officially registered single vineyard in the district of Schloßböckelheim in the Nahe winegrowing region. In the vineyard register, it is listed under number 511149 and comprises 6.5 hectares of planted vineyard area.

Topography and Soil

The site is located on a high plateau above the Nahe, below a barren wall of volcanic rock. The upper area comprises more than 300 rows of vines and has slopes of over 70 percent. It runs along the hillside from a south-eastern to a south-western orientation.

Cultivation and Grape Varieties

Weingut Hexamer cultivates 6.3 hectares of the 6.9-hectare vineyard. The predominant rock is volcanic porphyry, which the operator describes as rich in magnesium, phosphorus and calcium. As the most important planted grape variety, Riesling is documented.

Wine Style and History

The wines from In den Felsen are described as having stone fruit, peach and tropical fruit aromas, floral notes, as well as a typical subtle smoky note. A Riesling from Schloßböckelheim from this vineyard secured third place in 2009 in the Nahe regional wine competition for dry Rieslings.
