Location and Classification
Hüttberg is the single vineyard Ebersheimer Hüttberg in the Mainz district of Ebersheim in Rheinhessen. It belongs to the Nierstein area, to the Großlage Sankt Alban and to the single vineyard Hüttberg of the Qualitätswein region Rheinhessen.
Soil and Aspect
The site is classified as marl-pararendzina. Its calcareous loams and sands originated from deposits of the Tertiary sea. The deep, calcareous clay soil contains clay with spring/flow capability. The vineyard is sloping and oriented to the south-southwest; its area is about 21 hectares.
History
In 1308 the site is documented as sub monte dicitur hutteberg. The name refers to a freestanding hut of unknown purpose. In 1971, the previously numerous vineyard names in Ebersheim were consolidated into the three designations Sand, Weinkeller and Hüttberg.
Varieties and Wine Styles
From Ebersheimer Hüttberg, wines made from Riesling, Scheurebe, Gewürztraminer and Chardonnay are documented. Bottled wines are offered, among others, as dry, fine semi-dry, sweet, Spätlese and Auslese.
