Location and classification
Hütt is a single vineyard in Sausenheim, a district of Grünstadt, in the wine-growing region Pfalz. The site belongs to the Höllenpfad wine site group and is designated as a Sausenheim single vineyard.
Topography and soils
The vineyards lie at around 180 to 240 metres above sea level. About 40 per cent of the area is sloped, with around 20 per cent falling to steep sites. Documented plots show ice-age loess over tertiary limestone; in places, calcareous claystone interlayers and limestone occur in the subsoil.
Cultivation and grape varieties
A documented plot is planted in east-west rows on a slightly terraced slope. For Hütt, Riesling is particularly documented; in addition, Weißburgunder. A Riesling plot was planted in 1995, while an older plot, referred to as “In der Reis”, was already established in 1979.
Wine style and name
Hütt is listed as the origin for Riesling site wines, including dry bottlings. The wines are described as having ripe, exotic fruit, together with salty or chalky mineral notes. The name is said to go back to an earlier shelter hut on the connecting path between Neuleiningen and Grünstadt.
