Hirschlay

Location and classification

Hirschlay is a registered single-vineyard site in the municipality and cadastral area of Longuich in the wine-growing region of Mosel. It belongs to the larger site Probstberg and has the official site code 410706. The 2024 vineyard register shows an area of 119.8 hectares for the Longuich cadastral area.

Relief and soils

The vineyard site is located on the right bank of the Mosel and is described locally as a steep site with slate slopes. The documented soils consist of weathered slate with a small proportion of gravel.

Grape varieties and wines

With the Longuich Hirschlay, Burgundy varieties such as Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir are associated. Documented as well are Red Riesling and Dornfelder. The documented wine styles include dry Pinot Blanc, dry Pinot Gris and dry Red Riesling, as well as a lightly sweet Dornfelder Secco, a semi-dry Pinot Noir Blanc de Noirs and dry Pinot Noir.
