Location and classification
Seeburger Himmelshöhe is a single vineyard site in the Mansfelder Seen area of the Saale-Unstrut quality winegrowing region. It lies on the west side of the Süßer See; bordering the Seebereich are the vineyards of Höhnstedt. The vineyard sites directory assigns it to the municipalities of Seeburg, Lüttchendorf and Unterrißdorf in the Mansfelder Land winegrowing area.
Area and site
The name of the vineyard site goes back to the nearby elevation Himmelshöhe, documented at 188 metres above sea level. For Seeburger Himmelshöhe, the vineyard sites directory for 2024 lists a planted vineyard area of 21.9862 hectares. The lakes in the Mansfelder lake area contribute to climatically favourable conditions for winegrowing through heat-storage effects.
Grape varieties and wine
For Seeburger Himmelshöhe and adjacent sites, Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Elbling, Riesling, Weißburgunder, Blauer Zweigelt, Portugieser and Spätburgunder are listed. A documented vintage of 2024 is a dry Weißburgunder Spätlese as a German Prädikatswein. The full-bodied wine was developed by the Freyburg-Unstrut winemakers’ association.
Winegrowing history
Winegrowing at Seeburg has been documented since the Middle Ages. A document from 1209 confirmed land near Seeburg Castle as suitable for winegrowing; in addition, a gift from the late 12th century with vineyards around Seeburg is documented. Himmelshöhe is an officially approved single-vineyard site designation and is managed in the current register within the Großlage Höhnstedter Kelterberg.
