Location and Names
Himmelreich is assigned to the place of Gleina in the winegrowing region Saale-Unstrut. The official register of winegrowing sites as of 31 December 2024 lists Freyburger Himmelreich as a single site with 37.5912 hectares in the cadastral districts of Müncheroda, Zscheiplitz and Freyburg. Further local names are Zscheiplitzer Himmelreich and Müncherodaer Himmelreich.
Topography and Soil
Zscheiplitzer Himmelreich is oriented to the south-southeast, lies at 150 to 220 metres above sea level and has a slope gradient of 25 to 35 percent. The soil consists of shell limestone with a covering of loess and clay. Up to 70 centimetres thick layers of loess clay over weathered shell limestone are also described.
Grape Varieties and Classification
The classified grape varieties mentioned are Riesling, Weissburgunder, Grauburgunder and Spätburgunder. In addition, Burgundy varieties and Blauer Zweigelt also grow there. Zscheiplitzer Himmelreich is classified as VDP.ERSTE LAGE® in the winegrowing region Saale-Unstrut.
Ice Wine Harvest
On 21 January 2019, around 400 kilograms of Riesling with 172 degrees Oechsle were harvested in Müncherodaer Himmelreich for about 120 litres of ice wine. In November 2022, around 690 kilograms of frozen Riesling grapes were harvested at minus 8 degrees Celsius; from this, around 100 litres of must with 190 degrees Oechsle were produced.
