Hexelberg

Location and classification

The Hexelberg is a single vineyard in the Eimsheim cadastral area. It belongs to the large area Krötenbrunnen and to the Nierstein area in Rheinhessen.

Soil and area

The officially recorded vineyard area amounted to 25.5 hectares in the 2024 harvest year. The soil is described as loess-pararendzina. The calcareous loess deposited by wind during the Ice Ages forms a deep, fertile, loamy soil with clayey silt, a high capacity for water storage available to plants, sufficient aeration, lime content and good rooting depth.

Name and wine

The name goes back to an old Hesselberg, described as a hill covered with hazel bushes. A commercially documented Eimsheim-Hexelberg Spätlese from 1976 was produced from Scheurebe.
