Heßweg

Location and classification

Heßweg is a classified single vineyard in the municipality of Odernheim am Glan in the German winegrowing region Nahe. The vineyard register lists the site under vineyard number 511325 in the cadastral district of Odernheim.

Site

The site, which is oriented towards the south-west, has slope inclines of up to 65 per cent. From morning to evening, the slope receives direct sunlight. The soils consist of clay slate.

Grape variety and wines

As the most important grape variety, Riesling is documented. The wines produced from Heßweg include dry Riesling Spätlese and Riesling Auslese from the Grossarth winery.

Cultivation

The Grossarth winery classifies Heßweg as one of its vineyard sites and describes cultivation as difficult due to the steep slope. For its site wines, the winery specifies a reduction in yield in summer, a selective hand-harvest of healthy, ripe grapes, gentle processing, fermentation at 16 °C, and multi-month lees ageing.
