Location and classification
The Herrenbuckel is an officially registered single-vineyard site in Flemlingen. It belongs to the Großlage of Bischofskreuz in the area of Südliche Weinstraße of Pfalz and borders the Burrweiler Schlossgarten. The site is located below Burrweiler.
Topography and soils
The site, which faces east, lies at an altitude of 235 to 250 metres and has a slope of 2 to 7 per cent. Loess is listed as the soil; in addition, predominantly loess-clay soils with locally calcareous marl are described.
Area and wine law
The 2024 vineyard directory lists 48.6 hectares of planted vineyard area. There, the Herrenbuckel carries the vineyard site number 810107.
Grape varieties and wine styles
For the VDP classification of the site, Gewürztraminer is recorded on an area of 28.08 hectares. Documented site wines also include Grauburgunder, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Rieslaner. These include a dry Sauvignon Blanc Reserve, a dry Pinot Noir Reserve and a Rieslaner Auslese. A Grauburgunder is described as dry, full-bodied and mellow in its acidity, and linked with the calcareous marl soils of the site. The Pinot Noir Reserve comes from old vines.
