Location and Landscape
Flemlingen is a wine-growing municipality in the Palatinate and lies in the holiday region Southern Wine Route between Edenkoben and Landau. Views towards the Haardt are available from the municipality. The mild climate and a nature that sometimes looks Mediterranean shape the surroundings.
Vineyard Sites and Winegrowing
The single vineyard sites in the Bischofskreuz area include the Flemlinger Herrenbuckel, the Flemlinger Vogelsprung and the Flemlinger Zechpeter. The vineyard areas cover 48.6 hectares at the Herrenbuckel, 85.6 hectares at the Vogelsprung and 43.2 hectares at the Zechpeter.
The VDP classifies the Flemlinger Herrenbuckel as VDP.ERSTE LAGE. The site, facing east, is located at 235 to 250 metres above sea level, has a slope inclination of two to seven per cent and has loess soil. The indicated grape variety is Gewürztraminer.
History and Wine Law
Flemlingen was first mentioned in writing in 767 in the Codex Laureshamensis. A land consolidation in 1972 covered the entire municipal area; in 1978 the first municipal wine festival took place.
The municipality belongs to the protected designation of origin area Palatinate.
