Herrenberger

Location and aspect

The Wawerner Herrenberger lies in a side valley of the Saar above Wawern in the cultivation region Mosel-Saar-Ruwer. The south-facing site has a slope of around 40 per cent and lies around 220 metres above sea level.

Climate and soil

The Wawern vineyard sites are documented as having the highest number of sunshine hours in the Saar region. The soil consists of heavily weathered Devonian slate with a comparatively high proportion of clay, which improves its water-retention capacity.

Cultivation and wines

The Wawerner Herrenberger is a single-site vineyard for the winery Othegraven. The lower section comprises about two hectares and, following extensive land-reclamation work, was replanted in 2011. The grape variety planned is Riesling; the site is documented for VDP.ERSTE LAGE® classification Riesling wines.
