Location and landscape
Herrenberg is a vineyard site in Oberschüpf, a district of Boxberg in the wine region Baden and in Tauber Franconia. The single-vineyard site is connected with the Schüpfbach valley and is described as a shell limestone site.
Viticulture
Viticulture in Oberschüpf and Unterschüpf was revived after extensive land consolidation and the construction of a frost-protection sprinkler system in the early 1970s. For the vineyards associated with Oberschüpfer Herrenberg, nature-friendly and future-oriented cultivation methods are documented.
Grape varieties and wine styles
For wines from Oberschüpfer Herrenberg, Tauberschwarz, Spätburgunder, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gewürztraminer and Silvaner are documented. A documented Tauberschwarz is a dry red wine; another was matured dry, with must fermentation and ageing in used oak-wood barriques.
Historical and legal references
An archival record from 1844 documents the sale of a vineyard at Herrenberg in Oberschüpf to the Lords of Gemmingen and Stetten. Oberschüpfer Herrenberg is also used as a geographical vineyard designation for a documented Qualitätswein trocken from 2018.
