Heiligenhäuschen

Location and classification

Heiligenhäuschen is a single vineyard site in the cadastral district of the municipality Jugenheim in the wine-growing region Rheinhessen. It belongs to the Bingen area and to the large vineyard site Kaiserpfalz.

Topography and soil

The vineyards are located at around 150 to 170 metres above sea level and are oriented to the south-southeast. The soil consists of marl or Pelosol, deep, calcareous clay from deposits of the Tertiary sea. The high proportion of clay capable of releasing water limits water drainage and aeration; at the same time, the soil has a high nutrient content and a strong calcareousness.

Area and designation

The regional site profile gives the area planted with vines as around 14 hectares; in the vineyard register for the 2024 vintage, 13.8 hectares of vines are listed, along with the site number 710329. Heiligenhäuschen is one of the dry and warm vineyard sites in Jugenheim. The name goes back to a wayside or field sanctuary standing freely in the surrounding fields.
