Location and landscape
Heideberg, as the Eulauer Heideberg, is an officially recognised single vineyard site in the wine-growing region Saale-Unstrut. The site is assigned to the cadastral area of Eulau and includes, for 2024, a planted area of 9.8273 hectares. It lies at around 170 metres above sea level, has an average gradient of 8 degrees and a south-facing aspect.
Soil and cultivation
The geological subsoil consists of loess loam over sandstone; the documented soil depth is around 35 centimetres. As part of the LIFE-VineAdapt project, regionally adapted wildflower mixes were sown in the vineyard rows. They serve to reduce soil erosion and drying out, and to support beneficial insects.
Grape varieties and wines
For the Eulauer Heideberg, Grauburgunder, Bacchus, Dornfelder and André are documented. A documented vintage from 2014 was a dry red wine made from 100 percent André, which was matured in barriques. The Eulauer Heideberg is part of the ensemble of vineyard sites of the state-owned winery Kloster Pforta near Naumburg.
