Location and classification
Hasensprung is a single vineyard in Dorn-Dürkheim in the wine-growing region Rheinhessen. It belongs to the Nierstein area and to the collective vineyard Rheinblick. The vineyard area covers 32 hectares.
Soil and aspect
The site lies at around 180 to 210 metres above sea level and is predominantly south-facing. The soils consist of loess and colluvial soil. A humus-rich topsoil and particularly good root penetration are documented.
Grape varieties and wine styles
Various grape varieties are grown on the loess soils. Riesling, Silvaner, Weißburgunder, Spätburgunder, Regent and Acolon are documented. The recorded wine styles include dry, semi-dry and sweet wine, as well as late harvest wines, including Riesling Kabinett, Riesling Spätlese, dry Riesling, dry Silvaner, dry Weißburgunder and a semi-dry Spätburgunder Weißherbst.
Name and surroundings
The name Hasensprung is explained by reference to the hare and the Middle High German word for a spring or a water outflow. The surroundings of Dorn-Dürkheim are also documented as a find site for Miocene fossils, including remains from a period around 8.5 million years ago.
