Location and classification
Hansenberg is the legally registered single vineyard Johannisberger Hansenberg in the Johannisberg district of Geisenheim in the wine-growing region Rheingau. The vineyard, which covers around 4 hectares, lies on a south-facing slope below Schloss Hansenberg.
Soil and grape variety
The soils consist of loess loams with a high proportion of skeleton material made of quartzite, including Taunus quartzite. As the grape variety, Riesling is documented.
Wine character
The wines from Hansenberg are described as spicy, with pronounced fruit and harmonious acidity. Their character becomes apparent relatively early.
History of the name and wine law
The name of the vineyard dates back to Schloss Hansenberg. The winery there above Johannisberg was acquired in 1823 by Johannes de Laspée. Johannisberger Hansenberg is listed as an approved single-vineyard designation within the Rheingau Qualitätsweinbaugebiet.
