Location and landscape
Halde is a single-vineyard site in Zunsweier, a district of Offenburg, in the wine region Baden. The site lies at the transition between the wine regions of Ortenau and Breisgau. The surrounding area is characterised by a distinctly hilly Breisgau landscape.
Soils and vineyard area
The vines grow mainly on deep loess and loess loam soils. Smaller areas are on red sandstone. The winery Schloss Ortenberg describes Halde as its largest and youngest single-vineyard site; in 2020, around 18 hectares of vineyard area were reported there.
Wine character
According to the winery, the grapes from Halde produce fuller and less mineral wines than the grapes from the winery’s stony soils. They form the basis for its estate wines.
