Hägenich

Location and demarcation

Hägenich is a named viticultural area south of Wiesloch in the wine region Baden. The area extends to the municipal boundaries of Wiesloch, Rauenberg and Dielheim and lies at the so-called Three-Country Corner.

Use and terrain

Planning documents identify Hägenich as a focus area for vineyards and orchards. The terrain is sloping and is predominantly oriented to the south and west. A large part has been designated in the land-use plan as private green space for viticulture, but in recent times it has often not been used accordingly.

Historical context

A historical record documents wine tithes from the Gewann Hägenich for the year 1684. This means that viticulture in the named area has been evidenced at the latest since the 17th century. Hägenich is also listed as a single vineyard site near Wiesloch.
