Location and topography
Graben is a vineyard site in Bernkastel within Bernkastel-Kues on the Mosel. The site lies north of, and above, Bernkastel and encloses the Doctor vineyard site. It extends from about 125 to 225 metres above sea level, has a slope inclination of around 60 per cent and is oriented to the south-south-west.
Soil and grape variety
The vines grow on blue slate and blue clay slate. The documented clay content contributes to water supply. The VDP-classified area covers 11.05 hectares; Riesling is designated as the classified grape variety.
Classification and wine styles
Graben is classified by the VDP as VDP.GROSSE LAGE®. Documented wines from the site include dry Riesling Grosses Gewächs as well as Kabinett, Spätlese, Auslese and Eiswein.
